WHO NEEDS A FOOD HANDLER'S PERMIT?

Anyone working in the food industry, whether you’re a dishwasher or server, you need this permit. The Food Handlers class teaches basic food handling skills, temperature control for food items, cross contamination, and personal hygiene when handling food.

Food service permits are required before employment for all employees who work with food or in food establishments, day cares, nursing homes, hospitals and food manufacturing plants (including those involved in making vitamins).

It is the responsibility of management to check to see if employees have current permits or that new hires have permits before placing them on a work schedule. It is the employees responsibility to acquire the permit.
