Green Ribbon Month is an annual Utah Pedestrian Safety Program celebrated during the months of September and October. The goal is to help educate the community about the importance of pedestrian safety. This can especially help kids safely walk to school and get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
The month focuses on having motorists be more aware of school zones, crosswalks, and residential areas. Drivers pledge to drive with caution in school zones and residential areas. Students pledge to walk on sidewalks, look before crossing the street, and to cross at crosswalks. Green ribbons will be displayed on signs, cars, people, fences, trees and poles to remind drivers to watch out for children and reduce speed in school zones and residential areas.
All schools can participate by downloading the 2016 Green Ribbon Month Packet below, which contains information and activities for their school. A limited amount of printed packets, Green Ribbon Month posters and green flagging ribbon are available at the Weber-Morgan Health Department. To request a poster, some ribbons or a packet, please contact Jann Fawcett or Travis Olsen.
